Old growth forest

The North American term for a late successional forest that has not been significantly altered by human activity and which contains numerous mature, dying, and fallen trees.

Organicism

In philosophy, any theory describing the universe as the analogue of a living organism, especially in terms of development and organization.  Opposite of mechanism.
