Deadline: July 15, 2022
The International Society for Environmental Ethics invites scholars in an early stage of their career to participate in our annual essay Holmes Rolston Essay prize competition.
The prize is named in honor of Professor Holmes Rolston III, for his key work in developing the field of environmental philosophy. Papers are invited on all aspects of environmental philosophy, and the call extends to include environmentally-related papers with a strong theoretical component.
A prize of $500 will be awarded to the winning essay. All submitted papers by early career scholars will be reviewed by an Essay Prize Committee, and the winning essay will be published in the journal Environmental Ethics. Please note that the winning paper may require revisions prior to publication, and a winning paper must meet the journal’s acceptance standards, therefore committee reserves the right not to award the prize in years when these standards are not met.
Scholars who have earned their doctorate no more than five years prior to May 2022 are invited to submit an essay. Please also include a one-page CV to provide evidence of early career status.
The length limit is 60,000 characters (including spaces), including notes and references. Please also include an abstract of 100-150 words and anonymize your paper for review.
Submitted essays should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and they should not be submitted to any other journal until the outcome of the competition is announced. The review process will take approximately 6-8 weeks.
Submissions, along with the author’s one-page CV, should be emailed to ISEE President Marion Hourdequin (email@example.com) by July 15, 2022. Please title your email: 2022 Rolston Essay Prize Submission.
The Essay Prize Committee looks forward to reading the submissions!
