Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies

The Program in Environmental Studies at Williams College invites applications for a full-time, one-year visiting position in environmental studies, beginning July 1, 2013. Candidates with training in environmental studies and relevant fields in the environmental humanities or humanistic social sciences (geography, environmental history, anthropology, sociology, and philosophy) are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who are active scholars and who are able to teach intermediate and advanced courses on modern environmental thought and the cultural dimensions of environmental politics, as well as an interdisciplinary introduction to environmental studies. Expertise in environmental policy is desirable but not required. Williams is an institution that places a high value on undergraduate teaching; consequently, we strongly prefer applicants who can demonstrate a capacity for excellent teaching as well as scholarship. A PhD at time of appointment is strongly preferred, but ABD candidates will be considered.
