uOttawaBuilding on the success of last year’s event, we are happy to announce the call for the Second Canadian PhD Workshop in Environmental Economics and Policy.

Details can be found here. We strongly encourage Network members to circulate this call to any potentially interested students and colleagues.

Conference takes place: May 09, 2013 – May 10, 2013

Paper Submission Deadline: Dec 20, 2012

PhD students and post-docs working in Canada and abroad on topics in environmental economics and policy are invited to a 2-day workshop to be held at University of Ottawa. Applications are welcome from those based in economics and agricultural economics departments, business schools, environment institutes, schools of public policy etc. studying any aspect of environmental economics, environmental policy, green business, agricultural economics, or natural resource problems using theoretical, empirical or experimental methods.

Sessions will be built around 30 minute student presentations, giving participants the chance to expose their ideas and get feed-back from peers and established researchers. A mixture of work sessions and social time will give an excellent opportunity for participants to network, exchange ideas and experiences and get to know each other. The atmosphere will be informal and collegial.

Keynote guests this year are Tom Lyon (Michigan) and Bernard Sinclair-Desgagné (Montreal). Tom and Bernard are distinguished environmental scholars. Lyon holds the Dow Chair of Sustainable Science, Technology and Commerce at University of Michigan and has published theoretical and econometric papers in leading economics, management and policy journals. Sinclair-Desgagne holds a Chair at HEC Montreal and has written on environmental, risk management and regulatory issues in journals like Management Science, JEEM and Econometrica. In addition to attending sessions they will lead ‘career-craft’ workshops for PhD students – how to find topics, complete the dissertation, get grants, navigate the job market, manage the tenure process, get published etc.

There is no fee for participation. Local costs including accommodation will be paid by the organisers. A significant number of travel grants are also available courtesy of Sustainable Prosperity (these require you be based at a Canadian institution).

To submit a paper please e-mail Program Chair Anthony Heyes (aheyes@uottawa.ca) – Canada Research Chair in Environmental Economics at the University of Ottawa – with short CV and PDF draft of the paper or chapter for presentation. International applicants are very welcome.
