Practical philosophy is one of the subject areas. Briefly stated, practical philosophy includes value theory, ethics, meta-ethics, social philosophy, political philosophy, bioethics, philosophy of law, æsthetics, philosophy of education, philosophy of religion, and the philosophy of the social sciences and humanities. Decision theory and philosophy of action, as well as history of philosophy, are included in both practical and theoretical philosophy.

Anyone who has a doctoral degree awarded at a university outside of Sweden qualifies for employment as postdoctoral fellow. The doctorate must be completed by February 2013 at the latest. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period will be given priority.
