The Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University invites applicants for a full time tenure track position in food studies, rank open, to begin in August 2012. We seek an Associate or Full Professor, but will also consider promising applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department seeks a high-energy faculty member with expertise in the interdisciplinary study of food, food systems, and foodways. This academic appointment is in anticipation of establishing undergraduate and graduate programs in food studies.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include developing a stream of high-quality research; program and curriculum design; mentoring, advising, and instructing undergraduate and graduate students; fulfilling service responsibilities through department, college, university and professional avenues; and establishing professional liaisons with organizations in the local community and the global field.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate related to food studies, an active portfolio of externally funded research and peer reviewed publications (or evidence of potential to develop such a portfolio) , and teaching experience at the university level. We are willing to consider candidates trained in a variety of disciplines but with research and teaching expertise in food studies.
The Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nutrition and public health and is building a food studies program. The department focus is on health issues among diverse populations. Approximately 400 undergraduate and 40 graduate students pursue degrees in this department. Extensive opportunities exist for collaboration at Syracuse University and with the State University of New York (SUNY).
