JOB – PhD position, Ethics of Green Biotech‏

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.  KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees

Description of the research area
We seek to appoint a PhD candidate for research in ethical aspects on green biotechnology. You will work in an interdisciplinary research team that has a strong focus on international publication of research outcomes within a research programme (Mistra Biotech) consisting of researchers from the KTH and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).You will have close collaborations with researchers from both universities.

The position is for four years, extendable to a maximum of five years including departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching).

Qualifications/eligibility
To be eligible for PhD studies a Master’s degree (or equivalent) is required. A suitable disciplinary background is ethics or philosophy. Applicants with a major in agricultural or biological science are also welcome. Knowledge in agriculture and/or biotechnology is a merit.

The candidate should have a good command of English and Swedish or another Scandinavian language. The successful candidate should also be able to co-operate with other researchers and, for instance, representatives of government and business.

For PhD studies to be successful, it is necessary to have a high degree of motivation for scientific research, well developed analytical capacity, ability to work independently, good communication abilities and the social ability to work in a team.
